Title: Behind Her Eyes

Author: Sarah Pinborough

Genre: Thriller

Rating: 3 stars

I chose this book from a book subscription service. Thrillers are one of my favorite genres and the premise of the story is what grabbed my attention.

Behind Her Eyes does have the suspense element going for it; however it takes a while for it to come to fruition. The beginning of the book tends to move by slow with the introductions to the characters, but towards the middle that’s when the story begins to pick up. One of my main grips with the story is the introduction between David and Louise is never shown. That’s one of the main factors mentioned in the blurb, yet the bar scene with them is never shown, instead we just get a recap of it from Louise.

Moving onto the characters, Adele is the one who brings the mystery to the story. She’s the one who keeps the story moving. Throughout the book, you’re questioning whether she’s a victim or if she’s a master manipulator. As for David, much like Adele, he also has that mysterious factor about him. As details of his relationship with Adele are told, you’re left wondering what his motive is. Now, Louise is considered sort of the main character, the one stuck in the middle of Adele and David’s marriage. At the start, I liked Louise’s character, I felt for her in her struggle as a single mom. Yet, about halfway through I began to loathe her character due to her questionable actions.

The ending of the book gives you a plot twist that will shock you. While it may seem corny to some, it did have a creepy factor to it.

Behind Her Eyes does deliver with the suspense you expect of a thriller, yet the overall plot of the story could use some tuning.
