Holiday Traditions

Holidays are a time when many families begin their traditions.

In my family, we have our own little traditions.

First off, we start decorating the week before Thanksgiving. It used to be the first week in December, but in recent years my mom moved up the date.

So around the middle of November, we’ll set up the Christmas tree. Last year, we had to upgrade to a bigger tree to accommodate all our ornaments, in total we have over a hundred ornaments. My mom has a huge collection of ornaments, some of which date back to the 50s and 60s, that she received from her grandparents. Plus, she also has homemade ornaments from us and a collection of other decorations that reflect our hobbies. Every year, she adds a new ornament to her collection. We tease her that she has too many, yet Christmas is her favorite holiday and she loves her ornaments, so we let her have her fun.

Baking is another tradition we love to do around the holidays. I love to make cookies. My favorite kind to make are chocolate chip and sugar cookies, then sometimes I also do snickerdoodles. Sausage ball is the number one thing we always make at Christmas time. If you haven’t tried them yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. All you need to do is mix sausage, Bisquick, and shredded cheese. Roll them into balls and bake for a few minutes. Once you eat one you won’t be able to stop.

These are just a few of the holiday traditions we have in our house. As the holidays near, I’ll be posting more about our traditions.
